Prof. Koua Asseman Medard is a psychiatrist and lecturer-researcher at Alassane Ouattara University, where he has worked for over 20 years. He is committed to advancing public mental health policy and service reform in French-speaking countries in Africa and has led several innovative mental health initiatives.
He previously managed a psychiatric hospital and currently serves as the Coordinating Director of the National Mental Health Programme at the Ministry of Health Côte d’Ivoire, a role that allows him to integrate and prioritize mental health within national health and development strategies.
Since 2024, Prof. Koua has directed the first French-language public mental health leadership programme in West and Central Africa. He is also an expert in the French-language Field Epidemiology Training Programme with a mental health focus at the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
