Dr. Issa Namungu Lyimo is a Public Health Entomologist and Vector Ecologist with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and a PhD specializing in vector ecology, behaviour, surveillance, and novel vector control strategies. He currently serves as a Senior Principal Research Scientist at the Ifakara Health Institute.
With more than 20 years of professional experience, Dr. Lyimo’s research focuses on insect vector ecology and behaviour, vector surveillance, and the design and evaluation of innovative vector control strategies using One Health approaches to address public health challenges in Africa, particularly in Tanzania. He has led several multidisciplinary programmes tackling vector-borne diseases through integrated human, animal, and environmental health interventions.
Currently, he is involved in the evaluation of second-generation insecticide-treated nets for World Health Organization prequalification. He also contributes to national health policy as a member of the Vector Control and One Health Desk Technical Working Group at the Ministry of Health Tanzania.
