Dr. Abubakar Aliyu Jafiya is a veterinarian and field epidemiologist with over 25 years of experience in public health. His expertise includes outbreak investigation and response, disease surveillance, and health systems strengthening using a One Health approach.
He currently serves as National Coordinator for the Saving Lives and Livelihoods initiative at Africa CDC. Previously, he was Head of the Epidemiology Division at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Deputy Incident Manager for the COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center.
Dr. Jafiya has worked on polio eradication and routine immunization efforts in Nigeria and led the national initiatives on influenza surveillance and Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) in Nigeria.
