Dr. Maria da Luz Lima Mendonça is Chairman of the Board of Directors at the National Public Health Institute of Cape Verde. She is a medical doctor and a Public Health specialist, she holds a Master’s in Health and Development and a doctorate in Tropical Diseases and Global Health.
She serves as the focal point for health and the environment at the Cape Verde Ministry of Health and is vice-chair of the African Regional Network of the International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI)
Dr. Maria has held several leadership roles, including National Director of Health, director of multiple public health programs, and head of three health centers in Praia.
She also led the implementation of the Cape Verde Field Epidemiology Training Program (EpiCV) through her Leadership Challenge Project in the Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Fellowship. She is also a researcher with published papers in the areas of public health, policies, and health systems.
