Dr. Ibrahima Sonko is a medical epidemiologist and public health emergency management specialist. He currently serves as Head of the Public Health Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC) at Africa CDC, where he leads initiatives to strengthen emergency preparedness and response, and supports the establishment of functional PHEOCs across Regional Coordinating Centers and African Union Member States.
Previously, he served as Head of the Planning Unit at the Public Health Emergency Operations Center, Ministry of Health, Senegal, as well as Head of a Health District. He has also worked as a Senior Epidemiologist with the World Health Organization (WHO).
Dr. Sonko has contributed as a consultant with the Task Force for Global Health and TEPHINET, supporting West African countries to strengthen surveillance systems in line with International Health Regulations (IHR) and improve early outbreak detection and response.
