Dr. Ammar Barba is a public health specialist and leader with extensive experience in institutional reform, public health emergency management, and health system strengthening in Ethiopia. He currently serves as Chief of Staff at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), where he combines strategic leadership with hands-on expertise to address complex global health challenges.
At EPHI, Dr. Ammar has played a central role in advancing organizational reform and in establishing the Development Partners Coordination Platform, which strengthens collaboration among stakeholders in public health initiatives. He has also contributed to major epidemiological research, including Ethiopia’s HIV and STI Bio-Behavioral Survey (HSBBS). Previously, as Director of Clinical Governance and Quality at Ambo University Hospital, he led the Ethiopian Hospital Transformation Initiative and supported Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM), including the national COVID-19 response.
