Dr. Alex Lwando is a physician, health economist, healthcare manager, and insurer with more than 12 years of experience in health systems strengthening, social health protection, and healthcare financing. He currently serves as Acting Director for Quality Assurance and Accreditation at the National Health Insurance Management Authority Zambia, where he oversees quality assurance and implementation of the national health insurance scheme across accredited healthcare facilities nationwide.
His work focuses on strengthening healthcare financing systems, improving service delivery efficiency, and developing responsive healthcare benefit packages aligned with Zambia’s disease burden and public health priorities.
Dr. Alex has served in several national and international leadership roles, including as Contingent Medical Officer under the United Nations Peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic, Chairman of the National Health Insurance Steering Committee of the Zambia Medical Association, and Director of Health Services in the Zambia Army.
