Dr. Rose Wafula is a medical doctor and public health practitioner with over 18 years of experience in Kenya’s health sector. She is currently Senior Deputy Director of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health Kenya and Head of the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP).
She has played a central role in strengthening Kenya’s HIV response, overseeing national programming that supports more than 1.3 million people on antiretroviral therapy. Her work includes expanding access to HIV prevention services such as PrEP, PEP, condoms, harm reduction interventions, and opioid substitution therapy, as well as strengthening HIV commodity supply chains in collaboration with the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority.
Dr. Wafula’s career has focused on HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence (GBV), and maternal and child health. She has led national efforts to integrate GBV prevention and response into routine health services and to strengthen maternal, newborn, and adolescent health programmes, including collaborations with partners such as UNICEF.
