Dr. Samuel Mwaniki is a pharmacist, public health researcher and global health leader with over 15 years of experience across clinical practice, research, health systems strengthening, programme evaluation, and capacity building. He holds a PhD in Public Health and Epidemiology from University of the Witwatersrand, a Master of Science in Tropical and Infectious Diseases and a Bachelor of Pharmacy from University of Nairobi.
Through the Kofi Annan Fellowship in Global Health Leadership Programme (KAF-GHLP) and related Africa CDC-supported work, Dr. Mwaniki has contributed to strengthening public health institutions in Africa, with a particular focus on resource mobilization, strategic planning, partnership engagement, and sustainable financing. He is currently supporting Eswatini CDC in developing a resource mobilization strategy, mapping strategic partners, designing stakeholder engagement tools, and advancing institutional readiness for a sustainable National Public Health Institute. He is also a member of the Inaugural Alumni Executive Committee of the KAF-GHLP.
His research and programme work focus on HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health and rights, key and marginalized populations, implementation science, and public health systems. Dr. Mwaniki is also a Visiting Senior Researcher at University of the Witwatersrand, where he supports teaching, mentorship, grant writing, and research capacity strengthening. His work reflects a strong commitment to evidence-informed policy, inclusive health systems, and African-led global and public health leadership.
