Dr. Youssou Bamar Gueye is a distinguished researcher and public health professional with expertise in haematology and transfusion medicine. He currently serves as Head of the Operations Unit at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) within the Ministry of Health and Social Action, Senegal, where he is responsible for preparing and coordinating rapid response intervention teams.
Dr. Gueye has been affiliated with several leading institutions in Senegal, including Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (2011–2017) and the National Blood Transfusion Centre of Dakar. His research focuses on blood services, sickle cell disease, and haemophilia, with particular attention to challenges affecting sub-Saharan Africa. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Vox Sanguinis and Blood Coagulation and Fibrinolysis, covering topics including bleeding risk in haemophilia A carriers and transfusion practices in patients with sickle cell disease.
He has also engaged in international collaborations with organizations such as the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (India) and the French National Institute of Blood Transfusion. Through his academic and operational work, Dr. Gueye continues to contribute to strengthening blood transfusion services and improving patient care outcomes across the region.
