Dr. Yacouba Kone has served as Head of the Epidemiological Surveillance Section at the Directorate General of Health and Public Hygiene (DGSHP) since March 2022. He holds a Doctorate in General Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Odontostomatology (FMPOS) at the University of Bamako, as well as a Master’s degree in Intervention Epidemiology from Joseph KI-ZERBO University.
Dr. Yacouba has extensive experience working across all levels of the health system, from community-based care to national public health coordination. Since 2017, he has served as a DHIS2 platform administrator in Mali and has led numerous training programmes for health system personnel on the management and analysis of Health Information System (SIS) data quality at the Centre for Documentation, Planning, Training and Health Information (CDPFIS) within the DGSHP.
He is also a mentor and coordinator for the Field Epidemiology Training Programme (FETP), a member of the West Africa Regional Integrated Surveillance and Laboratory Network (RISLNET), and a focal point for the International Health Regulations (IHR) and One Health initiatives at the DGSHP. Through the coordination of activities and mobilization of resources from partners such as the Global Fund, the World Bank, and USAID, Dr. Yacouba has played a key role in expanding Community-Based Epidemiological Surveillance (SEBAC) in Mali.
