Dr. Izukanji Sikazwe is an infectious disease physician, HIV program leader, and global health expert currently serving as Head of HIV at the The Global Fund in Geneva.
With over two decades of experience, she has led major HIV prevention, treatment, and research initiatives across Zambia. She previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ), where she played a pivotal role in expanding access to antiretroviral therapy, strengthening national HIV programs, and advancing community-based models of care.
Her work spans clinical practice, large-scale program implementation, and global research, with contributions to major studies and Africa-led HIV strategies. She has been a strong advocate for integrating HIV services into broader health systems and for approaches that improve access, adherence, and equity.
Now at the The Global Fund, she leads global HIV investments and strategy, overseeing efforts across multiple countries to scale prevention, treatment, and care. In this role, she is also shaping critical conversations on the future of the HIV response—particularly how countries can sustain progress, transition from donor dependency, and build resilient, locally owned systems that can end HIV as a public health threat.
