Organisational Decision Quality (ODQ) for Programmatic Delivery at Africa CDC Factsheet

Why Organisational Decision Quality (ODQ)?

Every day at Africa CDC, people make decisions: which activity to prioritise, which partner to engage, how to allocate limited resources, whether to scale an initiative, how to respond to a risk, and how to balance speed, cost, quality, and impact. Many decisions are made under pressure, amid uncertainty. If the decision-making process in an organisation is unstructured and left to individual personalities, the likelihood that intuition or cognitive bias influences decisions increases, thereby raising the risk of mistakes. Institutionalising a systematic approach to ensuring decision quality, especially in programme delivery, will minimise the likelihood of bias influencing decisions, reduce associated organisational risks, and improve the organisation’s overall credibility and trust.

What Is Decision Quality?

Decision Quality (DQ) is a practical approach to improving decision-making. It helps us clearly define
decisions, consider options, assess uncertainty, and engage the right people early. Decision Quality
ensures clearer, more informed, and more inclusive decisions that maximise value.

Why Does it Matter to Institutionalise an OQD In Africa CDC?

As the organisation grows and becomes involved in more diverse and complex programmes, especially in times of uncertainty, it becomes imperative that it embeds a  robust mechanism in its decision making process to protect the quality of its decisions. Beyond the framework, Decision Quality is also a culture of posing, analysing the situation, thinking, and deciding after considering multiple alternatives.
