Africa CDC and WHO Rally Support for $518m Ebola Preparedness and Response Plan
A US$518m continental preparedness and response plan launched by Africa CDC and the WHO aims to strengthen Africa’s ability to prevent, detect and respond to the ongoing Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak.
The six-month plan brings together governments, partners and communities under a unified “One Response” approach and aligns continental efforts with the national response plans of the DRC and Uganda.
It focuses on strengthening emergency coordination, disease surveillance, laboratory testing, infection prevention and control, clinical care, community engagement, research, logistics and support for essential health services.
The strategy places particular emphasis on protecting vulnerable populations, enhancing
cross-border collaboration and reinforcing preparedness in at-risk countries. It also seeks to sustain efforts against other major public health threats, including mpox, cholera and measles, while strengthening the resilience of health systems across the continent.
