Dr. Mahlet Kifle Habtemariam

Biography

Dr. Mahlet Kifle Habtemariam is currently working as a Principal Program Officer at Africa CDC where she oversees the operations of the Office of the Director. Over a decade of experience as a public health physician, Dr. Mahlet has extensive expertise in disease control programs, health systems, and strategy development and execution. Prior to joining Africa CDC, she held progressively responsible positions at the Ministry of Health Ethiopia and served as a Chief of Staff in her most recent role.

Dr. Mahlet is passionate about health policy and systems research. She is a member of the Lancet Commission on Synergies between Universal Health Coverage, Health Security and Health Promotion and the task force on Public Health Measures for the Lancet COVID-19 Commission. Dr. Mahlet also serves as an active member of various technical advisory groups, think tanks and governing boards.
Dr. Mahlet holds a Doctor of Medicine from Addis Ababa University, and a Master of Public Health from University College Dublin. She is a Takemi Fellow of the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health and an African Public Health Leaders Fellow at Chatham House.
