Background
Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, convened “The African Manufacturing Pre-Marketplace Forum” on 12-13 March 2026, at the Africa CDC Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Building on the success of the second vaccines and Other Health Products Manufacturing Forum held in 2025, the Forum brought together about 100 participants including representatives from African Union Member States, National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs), relevant African Union Organs, African Vaccine and Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, AVMA Investors, Partners and Donors.
The Pre-Marketplace Forum 2026 was conceived as a targeted, action-oriented platform to agree on concrete, product-specific measures that accelerate both the supply and uptake of near-term health products, while strengthening coordinated support for pipeline products under development. To achieve this, the Forum focused on key pillars critical to advancing Africa’s health products manufacturing ecosystem, including supply readiness and timelines, demand and procurement channels, regulatory readiness and reliance pathways, financing needs and risk-sharing mechanisms, and market-shaping interventions.
This report summarizes the key findings and discussion points emerged from the Forum highlighting their implications for Africa’s health products manufacturing ecosystem and outlining priority actions for the next phase of implementation.
