Africa CDC is investing in the next generation of African public health professionals through fully funded fellowship programmes that combine specialised training, mentorship and practical experience. These initiatives aim to strengthen national health institutions, develop leadership capacity and equip countries to address emerging and existing public health challenges.
The Kofi Annan Fellowship in Global Health Leadership develops mid- to senior-level professionals through executive coaching, mentorship and leadership projects, preparing them to influence health policy and drive institutional reforms.
The African Epidemic Services (AES) programme offers three specialised pathways.
The Epidemiology Track strengthens disease surveillance, outbreak investigation and response capabilities. The Public Health Informatics Track develops expertise in digital health and data management, while the Laboratory Leadership Track strengthens laboratory quality systems, management and diagnostic capacity.
The Public Health Emergency Management Fellowship equips professionals with skills in emergency preparedness, incident management, emergency operations centres and response coordination.
The Industrial Fellowship in Vaccine Manufacturing gives recent graduates practical experience in vaccine production and manufacturing standards, supporting Africa’s ambition to expand local manufacturing capacity and strengthen health product supply chains.
The Biomanufacturing Fellowship develops technical, management and entrepreneurial expertise among professionals working in the biomanufacturing industry.
Together, these seven fellowship pathways contribute to a skilled, connected and resilient African public health workforce. By linking professional development to institutional needs, Africa CDC seeks to ensure that knowledge and expertise translate into stronger national health systems, improved emergency preparedness and greater continental health security.
