Overview:
The Partnership for Africa Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM) is an initiative of African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) with an overall goal of supporting vaccine self-reliance in African continent.
To further this goal, the PAVM has developed a Framework for Action (FFA) that is endorsed by African Union. This framework outlines 8 bold programs, specifically aimed at the development of vaccine development ecosystem in African continent.
One of the bold programs is directed towards talent development to addresses talent challenges related to vaccine manufacturing on the continent and to train future global health research leaders in areas of Vaccine Research and Development (R&D). To this end PAVM, in partnership with the INSIGHT consortia, has solicited several spots for African candidates in Fogarty International Future Leaders programs.
The purpose of the Fogarty programs is to provide mentored global health research training opportunities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) for pre-and post-doctoral candidates from the U.S. and LMICs. The program is sponsored by the Fogarty International Center (FIC) and several collaborating Institutes and Centers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The INSIGHT consortia is one of many consortia that comprise the Fogarty Launching Future Leaders in Global Health Research Training Program. This consortium brings together four top-ranked universities, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB), and the University of Pittsburgh (UP) and their respective international research training sites in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Trainee research projects are supported by experienced and dedicated mentors with expertise in clinical, public health, laboratory, and implementation research.
PAVM/Africa CDC is now inviting eligible candidates (priority will be given to candidates from front-runner[1] countries) to apply for Fogarty International Future Leaders programs.
Early Approval applications will conclude on the 8th April 2022 and applications for regular process will conclude on the 16th May 2022.
