AU-EU Health Partnership Charts New Phase Ahead of Luanda Summit
African and European delegates reaffirmed their health partnership during the AU-EU High-Level Steering Meeting in Pretoria, South Africa. The meeting set the stage for deeper cooperation ahead of the AU-EU Summit in Luanda, Angola (November 24–25, 2025) and marked the next phase of the 25-year AU-EU collaboration.
Hosted by South Africa’s Ministry of Health at the University of Pretoria, the gathering brought together 30 delegates from 15 countries and 11 institutions to align on priorities for Universal Health Coverage, sustainable financing, and resilient health systems. Leaders emphasised shared commitments to equity, innovation, and health sovereignty.
Since 2021, the AU-EU Health Partnership has advanced vaccine manufacturing, sexual and reproductive health, One Health security, digital health and support for public health institutes. Delegates outlined next steps, including pooled procurement, expanded digitisation and stronger institutional collaboration, carrying momentum into the Luanda Summit.
