Call for Applications: MHLP Graduates in Action Challenge

Theme: “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies”

About the Challenge 

In commemoration of World Mental Health Day (WMHD) 2025, Africa CDC through its flagship intervention, the Africa CDC Mental Health Leadership Programme (MHLP) invites its alumni’s (graduates to participate in the MHLP Alumni in Action Challenge. This initiative aims to showcase the incredible work MHLP graduates and fellows are leading across Africa to strengthen mental health systems, promote human rights- based approaches, integration of mental health into primary health care and advancing the inclusion of service users and people with lived experience in all levels of mental health advocacy. 

Who Can Apply? 

All graduates and fellows of the Mental Health Leadership 

Programme (MHLP) across all the 4 Pillars (Pillar 1: Koffi Anan, Pillar 2: FETP, Pillar 3: Short courses and Pillar 4: participants trained by the Networking and civil society engagement) of the Programme who are actively engaged in activities and initiatives that seek to advance Mental Health in their respective countries. 

Themes: 

  • Human right-based mental health 
  • Mental health systems strengthening in a context of global funding challenges 
  • Integration of mental health into primary health care: community centered approach. 

What Are We Looking For? 

We invite you to share short a short summary and video of your work and impact

All short videos should not exceed 5 minutes 

Your submission should highlight: 

  • Your current mental health initiative or activity that includes advancing mental health. 
  • How your work addresses human rights-based mental health or mental health systems strengthening or Integration of mental health into primary health care in the context of global funding challenges. 
  • The impact your initiative is making in your community. 

NB: Cross-countries and group initiatives are encouraged since MHLP is a community of cross border learning and networking. 

Submission Guidelines 

  • Format: Video (MP4 preferred) maximum 5 minutes.  
  • Language: All African Union official languages (subtitles encouraged, sign language interpretation encouraged).

Selection and Award 

A review panel comprising representatives from Africa CDC, CBM Global, and MHIN will evaluate submissions based on impact, innovation, and alignment with the theme. 

The winner(s) will receive an Africa CDC sponsored invitation to participate in the 7th Global Mental Health Summit in Cape Town, South Africa, 10-12 November 2025.
