BACKGROUND
Significant investments have been made in strengthening national laboratory systems in low and middle-income countries in the last two decades. Measuring the performance of laboratory systems towards achieving the targets of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the International Health Regulation 2005 (IHR) is key to monitor the impact of interventions, to design evidence-based investments, and to develop laboratory policies adapted emerging global health priorities.
WHAT IS THE LMM?
The Laboratory Maturity Monitoring (LMM) is a standardized tool for the continuous measurement of laboratory systems maturity. The LMM is part of a broader collaborative effort between countries, donors, implementers and health agencies to strengthen national laboratory systems more effectively, in support of improved disease control and health security. The results are used to help countries identify critical system gaps, set priorities and allocate resources to strengthen their health laboratory systems.
