Outbreak Update: Since the last brief (4 May 2021), 5,441,028 new confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases and 89,924 new deaths have been reported globally. To date, a total of 157,983,475 COVID-19 cases and 3,288,777 related deaths (case fatality ratio (CFR): 2.1%) have been reported from 225 countries and territories. The distribution of cumulative cases (proportion of global cases) from the World Health Organization (WHO) reporting regions (excluding Africa) are as follows: Eastern Mediterranean Region 8,150,064 (5%), European Region 52,914,444 (33%), Region of the Americas 63,677,932 (40%), South-East Asia Region 25,938,567 (16%) and Western Pacific Region 2,617,354 (2%). Over the last seven days, India reported more than 2,700,000 new cases, and has reported more than 2,000,000 new cases for the third consecutive week. Brazil and the United States each reported more than 200,000 new cases in the past seven days while Argentina, Colombia, France, Germany, Iran, and Turkey have each reported more than 100,000 new cases during the same period.
