Outbreak Brief 121: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic

Outbreak Update: As of 9 May 2022, a total of 514,967,390 COVID-19 cases and 6,253,410 deaths (case fatality ratio [CFR]: 1.2%) have been reported globally by 227 countries and territories to the World Health Organization (WHO). The distribution of cumulative cases (percentage of global cases) from the WHO regions (excluding Africa) are as follows: Eastern Mediterranean Region 18,390,038 (4%), European Region 216,812,722 (42%), Region of the Americas 153,904,703(30%), South-East Asia Region 57,955,313 (11%) and Western Pacific Region 55,967,909 (11%). In the last seven days, the five countries reporting the highest number of new cases are United States of America (466,996), Germany (415,153), Australia (389,183), Italy (294,207), and Republic of Korea (269,377). As of 9 May 2022, over 4.6 billion people (58% of the global population) have been fully vaccinated.
