Job purpose:
The Director – Center for Primary Health Care is responsible for leading and coordinating the efforts in strengthening primary Health care across Africa, ensuring the alignment with Africa CDC’s strategic plan and regional health priorities. This role involves providing technical guidance, fostering collaboration, and enhancing capacity building in public health practice, primary health care and community health system systems. He/ she will be required to provide strategic and technical leadership for Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation of Primary Health Care structures, systems, processes and outcomes for the African Continent.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director – Center for Primary Health Care shall perform the following major duties and responsibilities:
- Provide advice on the primary healthcare, especially organization of health care and services,
including in emergency’s time, determinants of health, health promotion, community health, and
on Africa CDC’s strategy on health coverage and health equity to the Director General - Preparation and application of the principles and techniques of primary healthcare at continental
and regional levels and provide support for national levels. - Develop and monitor primary healthcare strategy and units, the functions of which shall include:
- Ensure the improvement of the supply and coverage of quality health care and services
through scientific and modern methods and technologies; - Contribute to the establishment of norms and standards in primary health car
- Promote primary health care norms, standards and innovation including traditional medicine
- Promote quality primary health care and patient safety in health facilities
- Support the development of health services, including integration, globalization and
continuity of care especially vaccination, decentralization of services, community
participation and sustainability of care - Ensure that health is integrated into all development sectors and policies;
