The 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) comes at a pivotal moment for global health.
Across Africa, communities continue to face persistent and emerging challenges — from outbreaks of mpox, cholera, and Ebola to the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
As the African Union’s specialized health agency, Africa CDC is positioning Africa’s voice, strengthening global health solidarity, and advancing the New Public Health Order at the continental level. UNGA80 provides an opportunity to elevate Africa’s priorities on the global stage, foster new partnerships, and drive action on issues that matter most to the continent’s health security and resilience.
Africa CDC at UNGA80
At UNGA80, Africa CDC will:
- Provide leadership and governance through the Committee of Heads of State and Government of Africa CDC.
- Strengthen resilient community health systems via the Community Health Coordination Mechanism (CCM) Principals’ Taskforce Meeting.
- Advance reform of the global health architecture through a high-level African Ministerial Dialogue.
- Spotlight action on neglected diseases and NCDs, including a side event on sickle cell disease, aligned with Africa CDC’s Continental Strategy on NCDs, Injuries, and Mental Health.
