Dr. Claudia Shilumani

Director for External Relations and Strategic Engagement

Biography

Dr. Claudia Shilumani, recently joined Africa CDC as Director for External Relations and Strategic Engagement. In this role, Dr. Shilumani will lead efforts to strengthen partnerships, enhance stakeholder engagement, and advance strategic collaborations to further our mission. She will oversee the Division of Policy and Health Diplomacy as well as the Partnership and International Cooperation Division.

Dr Shilumani has 26 years of experience in the public health field, working in her home country of South Africa, as well as Southern and Western African regions as well as East Asia & Pacific Region while based in in Switzerland. In her previous roles, she performed in technical expert and senior and executive leadership roles, working for the Governments of South Africa and Sierra Leone; local, regional and international NGOs; the United Nations; Catholic Relief Services; and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Her vast experience covers health systems strengthening, policy advocacy, public health emergencies and accountability for impact.

Dr Shilumani joins Africa CDC from VillageReach, where she was the Vice President for Partnerships & Impact. In that role she led the Advocacy, Communications, Resource Mobilization as well as Research, Evidence and Learning Departments. Prior to that, she was the Chief Executive Officer for Centre for Communication Impact where she provided strategic direction for the strategic communication organization, ensuring sustainability for donor-funding programs and the organization more broadly.
