The Second Meeting of the Advisory and Technical Council of the Africa CDC will be held from 04th to 05th July 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the Headquarters of the African union Commission Conference Centre.
The role of the Advisory and Technical Council is to advise the Africa CDC on emerging issues and other related matters of disease control and prevention. It further provides advisory on the strategic plans and activities of the Africa CDC; advocacy and resources mobilization. Furthermore the council provides guidance on different aspects of disease surveillance, detection and response on the African Continent. Additionally it provides insight into the research and study areas and merits of the scientific work of the Africa CDC.
The Africa CDC was officially launched on 31st January 2017 on the margin of 28th Ordinary session. In March 2017, the Africa CDC had its inaugural Advisory and Technical Council Meeting and also launched its 5-year’s strategic plan. During this meeting the following items were agreed upon:
- Composition of the Advisory and Technical Council Members;
- Election Of Council Leadership;
- Adoption of the Rules of Procedure for the Governing Board and the Advisory & Technical Council of the Africa CDC.
The objectives of the second Advisory and Technical Council meeting are to:
- Obtain a detail update on Africa CDC’s progress since its last meeting.
- Provide guidance into specific Africa CDC technical programmatic areas.
