Dr Ashley Sharp is Senior Public Health Advisor at Public Health England and embedded within Africa CDC where he coordinates the IHR strengthening programme. Public Health England is an executive agency of the UK Department of Health and Social Care and is the national public health institute for England. The IHR strengthening programme is funded by the Official Development Assistance and contributes to international efforts to improve global health security through increased compliance with the International Health Regulations. Dr Sharp worked as a medical doctor before completing the UK Public Health Specialty Training Programme and UK Field Epidemiology Training Programme (FETP). He has worked in a variety of public health roles at local, regional and national levels in the UK, Eswatini, Sierra Leone, Haiti and Bangladesh, with a focus on health protection and health systems development. He is a member of the UK Faculty of Public Health, the standard setting body for public health specialists within the United Kingdom.
